Presentation: We will hold the International Conference "150 years of the International
Association of workers", not only for the convenience of the date, as well as, or even
more, we mean the opportunity to discuss the revolutionary traditions of dento
International and their contributions to the shaping of class trabalhadora in the
nineteenth century. The International was the stage, between the years 1864 and 1876, the
memorable debates which resulted in important part of organizational forms used until the
present day in the union and popular movement. Was still inside that appeared to sharpen
the ideological proposals of communism and anarchism, as well as its postulates and its
tactical and strategic differences.

Among the discussions on labor, anarchism and communism movement is inevitable to include
and highlight the 150th anniversary the International Workers Association - AIT - or First
International. We must take into account that the AIT had a strong influence in Brazil
and, even today, has importance with regard to political issues and organization of the
Brazilian labor and trade union movement.

At the historical moment in which we live, the economic crisis afflicting many countries
Europe has had important consequences in politics, especially in mobilizing large masses.
The intensification of these popular events, including Brazil, led (and lead) the streets
thousands of people, mostly young people, raising numerous economic, political, social and
ethical claims.

With these considerations and approaches to recognize the need to consider important . AIT
in its 150-year history in the light of events that have occurred in recent decades around
the planet The seminar proposes to: - Discuss the importance of unions and policies not
only for the working class and for other classes, layers and sectors of society. - Discuss
the current role of ideologies that formed the basis of various political perspectives of
the labor movement, especially the anarchist and communist. - Discuss new forms of social
organization that emerge today and where (and if) are opposed to the traditional forms of
organization. - Contribute to better understanding of the political and organizational
problems which we live today. - Promote the identification and recovery of the historical
