Back on workshops given at the book fair and Folk dirty. ---- We had originally thought,
with the 2014 edition of the Montreal Anarchist Bookfair, highlight 5 years of organized
anarchism in Saguenay. Nevertheless, the fact of celebrating 5 years of an anarchist
collective outside Montreal as a feat, we appeared more revealing about the state of our
movement. ---- We preferred to create an opportunity to share and reflect collectively on
the various reasons why the penalty anarchism to spread and take off the island of
Montreal . While presenting the different realities of anarchists area (geographic and
political isolation, etc..). Thus more than a hundred people responded to one or the other
invitations and have enriched their experience discussions.
It proves to be rather difficult to make a faithful summary of the workshops, which we
wish to emphasize lasted, placed end to end, nearly four hours. We assume the subjective
side the next lines, which are enhanced after an exchange of our views on the issue vision.
Uneven development
We believe that the first condition to foster the development of our ideas is to
recognize the structural differences between Montreal and Qu?bec's regions and analyze the
consequences.
In its development, the capitalist economy divides the territories of the centers (eg
Montreal), and peripheries. Centers focus within business districts: the capital,
administrative and other activities of production and business.
Peripheries, including the Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean is particularly part was originally
colonized to meet the interests of big business who wished to extract natural resources,
then transform and commercialize in the central regions and the abroad. Maintaining a
workforce cheap, disciplined by the scarcity of quality jobs, the owners put a hand so
assured on undisputed areas. Today very few things have changed. Threats of closures
workplaces, common in this era of globalization, and rising unemployment rates as concrete
resulting insecurity, poverty, violence, and a lot of social problems that affect women
more than men . It is thus that dictates the search for ever greater production, employing
fewer people, and trying to make them as flexible as possible in their work tasks without
compensation is increased. This pushes a mass of labor to urban centers or other areas in
the hope of finding better conditions.
The exodus of those who have greater mobility to employment (often younger) causes a
profound impact in communities, sometimes leading to the closure of towns and villages.
The history of our struggles
It would be quite naive to think that networks activists in these regions did not also are
affected. In our region, it was possible to observe in recent years an important bearing
militants and activists. By its predominantly student composition, this phenomenon is seen
accentuate and leads inexorably affect activist circles: increased workload, fatigue, loss
of expertise, etc..
By focusing on the historical struggles of the region, it is possible to see that the
generations of activists (the workers and trade union struggles, activists socialists, ML
groups, etc..) And their organization succeed the each other without much transition or
sharing of experience and the history of their struggle.
During the discussions held in both workshops, participants stressed the importance of
leaving traces, document and tell the story of our struggles. For a first time, to know
the local struggles outside of our respective communities and allow others to learn from it.
To this end, the example of the student strike is more relevant. If it is possible to see
the emergence of numerous books on the topic, in return, we are forced to conclude that
the stories of the struggles faced by activists in the region remain to this day to write.
Develop tools
To attract people to the major centers in the region struggles, we can not wait for others
to produce and write our stories. It is therefore imperative to develop our own tools of
communication. This blog or the book Radio X: sellers hate that we produced are modest
steps in this direction. To further this work, the participants in the workshops among
other proposed and analyzed the possibility of producing a newspaper, newsletter, or to
establish a dedicated to the promotion of regional struggles different platform. This is a
site that we would like to undertake in the coming months with all those who live and
struggle in the region.
