Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.
This week I am spotlighting Hexed by Kevin Hearne. This second book in the Iron Druid Chronicles has been sitting on my TBR mountain since 2011. I enjoyed the first book in this series and wanted to read more. Here is the description:
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn't care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty—when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II.Beginning:
With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of Bacchants blowing in from Vegas with their special brand of deadly decadence, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt. But aided by his magical sword, his neighbor’s rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and his vampire attorney, Atticus is ready to sweep the town and show the witchy women they picked the wrong Druid to hex.
Turns out that when you kill a god, people want to talk to you.Friday 56:
What I enjoy is Oberon's obsession with the story until the next one gets told. He's been vicariously living out the life of Genghis Kahn for the past three weeks, constantly badgering me to muster the hordes on the Mongolian steppe and start a land war in Asia.
