Same-sex marriage becomes focus of Illinois’ governor’s race

Gov. Pat Quinn attended one wedding ceremony while advocates accused his Republican challenger, Bruce Rauner, of being against efforts to legalize same-sex marriage.

Idaho governor wants full appeals court review of same-sex marriage ruling

"Butch" Otter has filed a petition with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals requesting an "en banc" hearing by an 11-judge panel of the court in an appeal of a federal magistrate's ruling striking down Idaho's same-sex marriage ban. Typically, appeals are heard by a three-judge panel selected from the 29 judges that make up the Ninth Circuit.

Jackson, Wyo. adds protections for LGBT workers in hiring policies

Jackson, Wyo.JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson, Wyo., town council has formally added protections for LGBT people to its hiring policies. The council voted 3-0 in favor of the changes on May 27. Town Council Don Frank says adding protections to the policy manual "is in the finer spirit of liberty and justice."

Two men arrested in attack on transgender women on Atlanta train

MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) police arrested Frederick L. Missick and Luther L. Thomas; both men are charged with disorderly conduct in the brawl was caught on camera and posted online.

Supreme-CourtArguing that there is no way the U.S. Supreme Court is going to rule on the constitutionality of state bans on same-sex marriage when only a private group is defending such a law, Oregon state officials and a group of same-sex couples urged the Court on Monday not to grant a private association’s request to stop those couples from marrying in that state.

Equality Illinois CEO Bernard Cherkasov says the Winnetka businessman has opposed efforts for the new law and has previously vowed to work against them.

Gallup Polls show significant gains in public support for LGBT community - Support for same-sex couple adoption outweighs support for marriage equality

Jeff Siner,  APPublic opinion on same-sex relations has improved more dramatically than it has on any other controversial issue with strong moral sensibilities, according to data released on Friday by the Gallup Poll organization. When asked to indicate, “Do you believe that, in general, the following are morally acceptable?” 58 percent said yes on “gay and lesbian relations.”

Federal appeals courts set schedules in Idaho, Nevada and Texas marriage cases

The John Minor Wisdom U.S. Courthouse, home of the Fifth Circuit, New Orleans.Two more federal appeals courts are set to consider recent rulings declaring same-sex marriage bans in Idaho and Texas as unconstitutional, and an appeal of Nevada's ban, which was upheld in 2012. The cases are De Leon v. Perry in Texas, Latta v. Otter in Idaho, and Sevcik v. Sandoval in Nevada.
