This is a first world-level monograph on ecotoxicology of detergents and the main components of detergents, namely, synthetic surfactants. The author, Dr. Sergei Ostroumov, conducted a unique and innovative series of experiments in the best universities and scientific institutions in U.K., U.S.A., Russia and other countries. He obtained a huge amount of new facts on environmental hazards of surfactants. His research covered both aquatic and terrestrial organisms. He did his experiments with both freshwater and marine organisms. The book contains not only new facts but also new ideas. He developed new set of criteria to evaluate environmental hazards. Also, he formulated the fundamentals of a new ecological theory of how organisms function together toward improving water quality in nature (water self-purification). The bottom line: I recommend this excellent book to many who are involved in environmental sciences, environmental toxicology, environmental education.
