Mystery of the big pants on Coronation Street

Did anyone else do a double-take at the start of Coronation Street last night?  The episode opened with Deirdre putting the rubbish out at the back of the house and clearly saw her washing hanging on the line.  Washing that included three enormous pairs of mighty-whitey underpants.

The question of course is - why on earth do those pants belong to in Deirdre's house?  Let's assume they're not Deirdre's belly-warmers. Tracy wouldn't be seen dead in them, they're certainly not Amy's. This leaves either Peter or Rob - can we really imagine either of those two young bucks wearing something like that? I think not.

Of course, it could be a reminder that Ken is on his way back and Deirdre's giving Ken's pants an airing before he returns.  Or maybe they're blankets for Eccles' dog basket.

How odd.
