Explanatory text on the situation prepared by the Centre for Social Housing permanently
self organized Atti?k?.
It's been several months since the inhabitants of 67 rue de Strabourg fight against the
imminent eviction from their building. The
District Court of Saint Denis in favor of the owner against the people December 19, 2013,
and ordered the expulsion of the building. The
Luxembourg company TYRSON INVEST owns this building since 2006 and has been left blank. It
is occupied by persons who are not
other housing solutions for nearly 10 years. This property company leads the usual
strategy of real estate speculators:
leave empty buildings deteriorate to speed up the land and sell at higher prices later
years. The
city of Saint Denis center becomes today sufffisamment attractive to speculators, and
their lawyer warned in 2009 the city of
Saint Denis of its intention to expel the inhabitants. But nothing has been done so by the
City to meet the locals.
Since the summer of 2013, people familiar with the process have questioned the mayor about
their situation: they live in the building
for almost 10 years and have no alternatives. They had no answer and are therefore come to
ask the support of the permanently
Housing self organized social center in Saint Denis Atti?k? in April 2014. Since that day
tenure housing and are Atti?k?
solidarity with the struggle of 67 rue de Strasbourg.
On 14 April 2014 the collective of inhabitants wrote a letter to the city of Saint Denis
requesting an appointment for an update on
their situation. This letter is again unanswered. The group decided to protest to make
visible the situation, and
fight against all deportations of housing, Saturday, May 17 at St. Denis. Given the lack
of response from the city of Saint Denis, and
given the urgency of the situation, people have decided to intervene in the council of 22
May, with the support of
teacher unions came to protest against the reform school rhythms. Determining the
collective support of the community center
Atti?k? and education unions yielded an appointment for the following Tuesday, May 27
Meanwhile, Saturday, May 24, the group was present at the joint demonstration against
evictions in Seine Saint Denis. This
event was the watchword fight against evictions, they relate to tenants who can not pay
the rent
always more expensive or squatters occupying empty and often unhealthy buildings under the
constant threat of being homeless.
The call ends with these words:
"Nothing is lost, there are forces in Seine Saint Denis, the struggles of the housing are
numerous tenants, poorly housed, homeless, Citizens for,
activists: Unite for stopping evictions, relocation of those who were on the streets, with
or without paper
and regularization. "
And this appeal is signed by the Communist Party and the entire Left Front, recently
re-elected mayor of Saint Denis. We therefore
went to the appointment Tuesday with the hope to start doing what we concr?temment claimed
together last Saturday:
fight against evictions, relocations and for regularization. The group has made very
specific requests ? Antoine Bussy, who represented the Mayor of Saint Denis at this
appointment. Their claims against the Mayor were and still are:
- Public support against the expulsion of the inhabitants of 67 by property speculators
TYRSON INVEST and the Prefecture
- Support of applications for regularization to the Prefecture with a request for an
appointment
- Collective relocations
- The supply of building or another empty building equivalent.
Antoine Bussy recalled at the beginning of the meeting that the evictions multiplied in
Seine Saint Denis and the Prefecture of applied
more rapidly wills owners. He admitted that in this situation "there is fire" and that the
deportation is imminent.
Yet he refused to implement any process support from the Town Hall. The only thing is
given a letter to the
Prefecture reminding of the right accommodation for you always-s, while admitting that it
was almost impossible that the inhabitants of 67 in access
reality accommodation given the structural crisis especially 115 Seine Saint Denis.
The city of Saint Denis refuses to take a stand against the deportation of 67 rue de
Strasbourg under the pretext that it is a squat and it does
look at the owner and the state.
The Mayor of Saint Denis refuses to exercise its power to requisition the building or
other buildings empty in Saint Denis, even
or if the property belongs to a Luxembourg real estate speculator who has no other
projects that get rich on the backs of the working classes of Saint Denis.
The Mayor of Saint Denis refuses to support the efforts of the group of 67 rue de
Strasbourg to the Prefecture for collective regularization. After one thirty negotiations
Antoine Bussy agreed to a mail from the Mayor to request appointment to the Prefecture,
but refused to give us another appointment to prepare files collectively.
The Mayor of Saint Denis, the face of people threatened with eviction by the Prefecture
and real estate speculators, replied that there was nothing to do.
One week after a single demonstration against evictions in Seine Saint Denis, the team of
the Communist Party and the Left Front elected in Saint Denis refused to provide any
support to a group fighting for its relocation and regularization.
This is intolerable. This must change.
The struggle of 67 rue de Strasbourg needs of the widest possible support to achieve their
demands. Collectives, unions, political organizations and associations of the city brought
against evictions for the relocation of people on the street and for the regularization of
undocumented must support the collective of
inhabitants of 67 rue de Strasbourg.
To do this, we ask you to sign this appeal to the solidarity of the collective
manifestation of 67 rue de Strasbourg Saturday, June 14
Meet at 1:30 p.m. before the RER D Saint Denis.
