I will cite  this excellent top paper. Prior to publishing this paper, the understanding of  aquatic ecosystem structure and function was very limited and outdated. This excellent paper added much innovation to our knowledge of aquatic ecology. The paper discovered new aspect of the ecological mechanisms to improve water quality in natural freshwater and marine ecosystems. The paper  formulated new aspects of the important role of aquatic biodiversity in improving water quality. The author, Dr. Sergei Ostroumov, carried out new experiments which discovered the this vital function of aquatic biodiversity (in upgrading water quality) is labile and vulnerable to chemical pollutants (exemplified - in his experiments- by synthetic surfactants and detergents). It is a really superb innovative article. I plan to cite this excellent paper.
