4 days after the tragedy,
The 36 survivors were detained till yesterday afternoon in a small detention room of the cost guard.
No access was alowd to any NGO, to UNHCR or to the local group.
Yesterday night the survivors were supposed to be transfered to the detention camp of Samos
were also the local group has NO ACCESS.
A relative from Syria who lives in Sweden called our group in Mytilini to ask for
help. He lost his mothe his sister and his brother. The child of his sister was tranfered to
the hospital in Athens and three of his brothers are detained in Samos.
He wants to take the bodies back in Syria which we explained is really difficult.
It has to be clear to the authorities immediately that survivors of a tragedy and
relatives should be supported and not treated us detainees or part of a preliminary inquiry
which is the case.
There is no mecanism of support here and no transparency and this serious case can't
be treated by Greek authorities alone as it concernes the whole Europe.
