In a totally unstable economic and social context, the Islamist government, good servant
of his king, leads a policy of austerity which is accompanied by a ferocious repression
wherever people stand up for their rights to ask. ---- In Casablanca, April 6, several
Moroccan unions (CDT UMT FDT) have called for demonstrations for social justice and the
defense of the purchasing power of workers. Members of the Movement of 20-February
responded to the call and procession of a hundred people joined the union processions.
---- At nearly half way to the event, the state police targeted the procession-February 20
Movement and violently attacked without warning and without any particular legal pretext.
The operation resulted in several arrests: Ayoub Boudad Hakim Serroukh Mostapha Aarass,
Alharaq Mohamed Hamza Haddi, Bouhlal Youssef, Fouad Amine Lekbabi and Elbaz are still in
custody at this time.
Their hearing was held in a tense April 15 and their next appointment before Justice is
scheduled for April 22. Activists came into hunger strike on April 16, after the refusal
by the judge to grant them bail. This strike is their only weapon to denounce the
arbitrariness of the Moroccan state and appalling prison conditions.
This repression, Morocco has always been orchestrated by the highest levels of power, is
neither isolated nor unusual. It is the trademark of a State which is not encumbered by
democratic considerations and has no need of the freedoms of the Moroccan people.
In a totally unstable economic and social context, the Islamist government, good servant
of his king, leads a policy of austerity which is accompanied by a ferocious repression
wherever people stand up for their rights to ask.
Libertarian Alternative fully supports the militants of the Movement of 20-February held
in Moroccan prisons and demands their immediate release and that of all other prisoners
and all other political prisoners released.
Oppression knows no limits or boundaries. Our solidarity either!
