(en) France, Alternative Libertaire AL #237 - Testimony of inmate France Prisons, prisoners of the world (fr, pt)

An inmate testifies about prison conditions in France, among the confirmed criminals who
are prisoners, and supervisors involved in multiple existing traffic in the prison
environment. ---- Good, although I do not know prisons in other countries, even though
I've never been to jail before, I know and I see my place of confinement, the French
prison system does not work. Some officials of the prison administration are sadistic,
accompanying penalties for inmates suffering, humiliation, misery. Prisoners are forced to
trade to improve their living conditions. Some supervisors involved in this traffic and
thus increase their monthly covered by their leaders. Some are returning drugs, cell
phones and sometimes weapons to inmates who have money to pay. And when I see some
supervisors who are paid to return these objects, I think it exceeds all limits and I
wonder how we can fight against crime and recidivism if we manufactured all in French
prisons. But there are also many supervisors working in prison to help inmates and do
their job without the help of the prison administration and the Ministry of Justice.

The temptation of recidivism

I still do not understand why, in France, people do not have the desire to change the
prison system. I'm not talking about the renovation of buildings or building more
comfortable and human cells. I mean by that, to stop treating prisoners as mere numbers
(nut or folder), to stop the racist words and humiliations. To make a real social and
educational work, so that prisoners are less tempted by recidivism.

Instead, today, is in prison that we manufacture all kinds of criminals as prisons France
are schools of crime. The biggest problem is that young people returning to prison for
minor offenses and in contact with older and more experienced bandits think only become
like them. When they go out they spend much more serious acts, many are back and return to
prison for a long time. It takes a lot more teachers and educators for the prisons are not
factories offenders.

Another problem: the hegemonic will of Muslim fundamentalists, who have become a part of
the French prison world. Their main objective is to get people who were released by their
families and by society, offering them everything they need to survive in prison, and at
the same time turn them into soldiers. I myself have been approached, but I have a family
behind me, despite the distance, supports me. It is unfortunate that many inmates do not
have this support and feel let down by the prison administration.

All that stands firm against inmates and maintains tension. France does not fight against
recidivism, the word still a nice word in the mouth of some politicians who need to
succeed and to be elected.
