This article was the first to discover the significant role of aquatic organisms (the aquatic biota) in improving water quality in aquatic (freshwater and marine) ecosystems.
The article was pioneering in discovering at least two important aspects of the role of the biota:
(1) the central position of the biota as the most important component of the ecological processes of water self-purification;
(2) the lability and vulnerability of the function of the biota in doing the water purification.
The article was downloaded in a number of top universities which have Nobel Prize winners among their alumni and faculty.

A nonlinear model of contaminant transformations in an aquatic environment
BM Dolgonosov, TN Gubernatorova - Water resources, 2005 - Springer
Abstract A nonlinear model of the decomposition of a multicomponent contaminant is
developed with allowance made for the distribution of components over their reactivity.

Assessment of admissible runoff withdrawals in small river basins: Methodological principles
VI Danilov-Danil'yan, MV Bolgov, VG Dubinina… - Water resources, 2006 - Springer
Abstract It is proposed to assess the admissible runoff withdrawals in small river basins by a
complex of calculations involving hydrological analysis, the estimation of conditions required
for the sustainable functioning of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and, finally, the ...
