European meetings ecosocialism held in late January in Geneva, involving tens of European
organizations and South America. Libertarian alternative was invited there with other
carriers anticapitalist movements and ecological alternative. ---- The Swiss group
Ecosocialist party Solidarit?S was initiated meetings that took place from January 24 to
26 in Geneva, in line with its eco-socialist program [ 1 ], ie a revolution in the system
of production, consumption, transport, and a cultural revolution of the biosphere. ---- In
the image of this group, the core participants and participants consisted of
anti-capitalist parties and environmentalists around the Fourth International, and are in
a process of synthesis between Marxist thought and current ecology "social" Izquierda
Anticapitalista, NPA, etc. anticapitalist Left. They invited movements, unions and
networks ecologists from all over Europe (Solidarity, the union Andalusian SAT, Belgian
CADTM Climate Network Social Justice etc.), as well as representatives of South American
environmental movements (for earth, ecofeminists, members of Via Campesina ...).
Besides the interest of the exchanges that took place, the aim of these meetings is to
formalize a network Ecosocialist at least European, with debates and common references,
both in terms of the ideas on which movements take example.
Strengthen links between dispersed fronts
Side of the great currents of political or guests featured prominently Michael L?wy, which
is a reference (although not intervened on his own writings on ecosocialism but the
struggles of the South), or Daniel Tanuro, to altermondialists sides of tenantes movements
Ecofeminists struggles such Yayo Herrero (Ecologists in Action, Spain), the decreasing
sensitivity or self-management of unionism.
The side of the common issues that were discussed, several plenary sessions brushed the
state of affairs of environmental challenges, struggles (intervention Maxime Combes) and
the next international challenge posed by the twenty-first UN conference on climate change.
The need to strengthen links and networks between fronts scattered (antinuclear struggle
after Fukushima, peasant struggles, labor struggles ...) has been demonstrated again.
While a dozen workshops on three days trying to present alternatives and deepen the
political system, agricultural, energy, land ... and the means to create links between
struggles.
The workshop related to "role of unions in an eco-socialist perspective" is emblematic in
this regard. Libertarian Alternative intervened in the planning, as well as the PG, and
discussions revolved around the decision-making process.
Festive moments
These meetings have been a moment of exchange and very constructive discussions, which
should rise to concrete prospects of working together (they will be published on the
site). To crown their success, they also booked festive moments such as demonstrations,
performances in the banking district to criticize the entire Swiss politics, and the
evening to support agricultural laborers of Andalusia with the mayor of Marinaleda [ 2 ]
Juan Manuel Gordillo.
