March 8, will be the third edition of the women's strike in Toulouse. This year,
Solidarity called form collectives throughout France and began a national collective. ----
Since the first successful women's strike in 2012 in Toulouse (see items in AL March and
May 2013), the idea has gained ground. Starting in September, called Solidarity to form a
collective to a national strike women. Came to the first meeting of the CGT, FSU, the
UNEF, the World March of Women (WMW), the National Collective for Women's Rights (CNDF)
Dare feminism, Attac, and the collective on March 8 for all. Political organizations were
left out to avoid the project is distorted by electoral logic. Despite many people
interested, locks are likely to slow down the project. Associations and collective
feminist struggle indeed to unite. CGT and CNDF yet to convince. However, FSU, Attac and
MMF have finally embarked on the adventure. Discussions will continue to appeal to the
more massive strike in 2015.
So this year, the demonstration will be held March 8, again by CNDF, regardless of strike
group of women who should, however, call for action. Social-Health-South, South PTT, South
Education and territorial South Communities are willing to ask for the strike notice. It
should be called for the same day on March 8, a Saturday during the holidays, which may be
a serious handicap for monitoring the strike. This date was chosen because many women work
on Saturdays, and they are often among the most exploited. Yet, the reality of the
implementation of unions willing to ask strike notice and do field work does not match.
Initiatives may take place after this call in Ile-de-France, Lyon and Marseille. The
project was difficult to build but grows anyway. Convinced of its correctness may take
years, but it is important to grasp, even beyond March 8.
Toulouse: a small but vibrant group
In Toulouse, the movement continues. However, the only feminist organization that really
remains is carrier Mix-Cit?. Only the NPA, AL, Attac and Solidarity are really there to
make the organization work. MMF, the collective Midi-Pyr?n?es for women's right and
Europe-Ecology-the-Green left the group. However others should join us along the way.
Again, it was decided to call a strike on Saturday despite the absence of implementation
of trade unions Solidarity in sectors that employ Saturday. However, animations, an
evening of shares during the previous week and a non-mixed event later in the month are
planned. This day should be the culmination of a mobilization that goes well beyond the
March 8 and is in the long term. It is unfortunate that the date of the strike could not
be moved, as if the struggle against patriarchy could not overflowing especially on March
8. In any case, the general strike of women will certainly not this year. But the idea is
to develop, because it is urgent to make the fight against patriarchy means to be
offensive against attacks that accumulate: abortion threatened, increasing casualization
of women with austerity policies, ordinary machismo uninhibited, perched ... A masculinist
us to take the project to feminism really offensive!
