(en) France, Alternative Libertaire AL #236 - Government policy: The social-racism or colonial left (fr, pt)

How can we be "left" and justify conducted by the racist government policy? If simplistic
nationalist identity and arguments are easily mobilized to the right, left, but rather to
appeal to the great emancipatory struggles, threatened by immigrant invaders! ---- As the
mandate of Holland reminds us of this, the left is not racist in nature. Responsibility
left in the crimes and colonial enterprises of yesterday and today are not accidents.
Today, the colonial imagination is remobilized there to legitimize the same laws as the
right. ---- Colonial origins ---- These practices are not new. In the nineteenth century,
it is a beautiful idea that justified colonization: "the emancipation of peoples." It is
the left of the time who defended and supported the colonial adventures in the National
Assembly. It was justified by a rationalist ideology on the inferiority of cultures and
races in giving the "duty to civilize the inferior races" according to Jules Ferry.

This ideology was left constant until the mid-twentieth century: Blum asserted the "right
and even the duty superior to attract those they have not reached the same degree of
culture breeds, and call the progress through the efforts of science and industry " . The
side of the PCF also, despite analysis and denunciation of the colonial system, this
thought also transpires from the idea that the settlement will allow the country
"backward" to reach the level of consciousness of the working class. Basically, we need to
"educate" the colonized "late for it to become free" . This is the reappropriation of
socialist revolutionary ideas from the colonies that will address the colonial oppression
as a whole, since the reality of the colonized, sparing the white progressive metropolis
", an example of this being the "Letter of Maurice Thorez" to Aim? C?saire in 1954.

Ideological restructuring

Struggles and victories anticolonial and anti-racist forces in the twentieth century
ideological restructuring to justify what is not justifiable. Now left, once morally
denounced racism, racist policies are justified by an uninhibited paternalism: hunting
undocumented in the name of the fight against modern slavery and mafia networks, veiled
girls forced emancipation of religious alienation and patriarchy. In short, save the
"savages" of themselves. The PS and PCF often merge ideologically "left-wing values" with
those of the universalist Republic "one and indivisible" confused and rarely distinguished
from the "French nation." Emancipatory struggles as feminism, however, often led by
opposing the Republic, in this discourse become the essence of the Republic, as well as a
symbol of national memory which we would be heirs inheritance almost hereditary (and we
will talk sexist than when violence affect the suburbs, but invisibilisera sexist violence
committed elsewhere, as if the French "native" was naturally immune and non-sexist). Also,
immigrant and French after the settlement must prove that they share these republican
value: it requires migrants true "test of civilization" by questioning on women's rights,
secularism, homosexuality is constructed ... threatening models: the "Arab Boy" and
"veiled woman" defined as archaic and threatening women's rights, which are considered as
acquired French values "for which we would beat" and that this would be preserve invaders
insane.

Refuse the logic of exclusion

Parallel model threatening, left participates in fashion show successful integration
(prioritizing non-whites "modern standard" in appearance as in their speech, to make them
say what we want to hear see what you do not dare say Malek Boutih making responsible the
"scum" of the rise of racism). These arguments nickname humanist and republican but also
neo-colonial born left always end up winning the far right: that's how we discovered a
little confused FN defend secularism, repeating the arguments Carolina Fourest.

The extreme left and the French social movement are far from immune and symbolic divisions
"them and us" is recreated, as demonstrated for example Illam Moussaid case in 2010 the
NPA. Social movement can not do without questioning its practices, particularly in terms
of claims and struggles to lead and highlight (police violence, discrimination, ...).

Refuse these socialist-racist recoveries that make us the greatest evil must be
fundamental to the social movement, which itself must be vigilant not to reproduce these
exclusion logic.
