Reported security incidents
#1: Four would-be suicide bombers were killed as their explosive device went off prematurely in former Taliban stronghold of southern Kandahar province on Friday, Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday. "A group of four suicide bombers linked to Taliban group were killed by their own explosive device while they were organizing some terrorist attacks in Tora Bagh village, Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province, yesterday," the statement said. The incident took place in a house where a child and two others were also killed.

#2: Militant attacks in three districts of Helmand Province killed five civilians including two women, officials said February 21. The Taliban killed a family of four, including two women, when a rocket they fired hit a home in the Jazi area of Nawzad District, Pajhwok Afghan News reported provincial police spokesman Col. Abdul Ahad Chopan as saying. A roadside blast in the Shawal area of Nade Ali District killed another civilian. A security operation in the Malakhan and Sra Qala areas of Khanshin District killed one rebel and led to nine arrests, border police officer Mohammad Maroof Babakarkhel said.

#3: A roadside bomb targeting a local leader of a nationalist party in northwest Pakistan killed three people and wounded two others on Saturday, police said. The incident took place in Buner district in the troubled northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, close to Swat Valley where Taliban insurgents shot schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai in the head.

#4: Officials in northwest Pakistan say military gunship helicopters have carried out a strike against a militant hideout, killing nine suspected insurgents. Authorities say the military launched the strike Saturday in the village of Thal in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

#5: A famer was killed when his tractor hit a roadside mine allegedly planted by insurgents to target the security forces in Khogyani village of Maruf district in southern province of Kandahar, governor office said Saturday.

#6: A person suspected to be a bomb carrier was killed when an explosion occurred in Nasir Bagh area here on Saturday. According to police the blast took place early in the morning in Juma Khan Khwar area and when police reached the area they found the body of an unknown person near the spot of blast.

#7: Four people were killed in an attack in western Afghan province of Herat overnight, an official said on Saturday. "Several militants carried out an attack on Afghan Local Police (ALP) security checkpoint at midnight. One ALP cop, a civilian and two militants were killed during the exchange of fire in Obe district, northeast of provincial capital Herat city," the district governor Shir Agha Alokozai told Xinhua, adding four militants were wounded.

#8: Two policemen were killed and three others wounded as a roadside bomb struck police van in northern Afghan province of Kunduz on Saturday, police said.

#9: Units of Afghan police backed by the army have killed four armed Taliban militants and arrested 21 others across the country over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry said in a statement released here Saturday.
