It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Feb. 10, 2014)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Last week was Snowball at our school which caused some excitement and chaos. Two of my groups of sixth graders managed to hit the most disrupted days and every class they had was shorter than their peers in the other sections. We have been working with Google forms to make surveys. I think there are still some students who haven't sent their surveys out. Whereas, the other groups have sent theirs out and even sent out follow ups to get more responses. I doubt that I'll ever get the sections back in sync.

This coming week will be disrupted in a different way. We have parent-teacher conferences Monday and Tuesday evenings. That makes my school day particularly long. I'll be working from 7:30 AM to 7 PM both nights. However, we do have Friday off to make up for the extra time earlier in the week. Since I very seldom see any parents, I should be able to get some reading done. Once I get home, I think the Olympics will trump any additional reading time. I really like figure skating but I tend to watch anything that's on.

I also have Wednesday off this week for a medical procedure. It is time for another colonoscopy. I have had quite a few. I don't mind the procedure but really hate all the preparation that has to be done before it.

Read Last Week
To Make a Match by Liana LeFey was an enjoyable historical romance. My review will be posted on Feb. 12.

Locomotive by Brian Floca won the Caldecott Award this year. I loved the amazing pictures. I can't wait to share this story about the Transcontinental Railroad with my students.
Moth and Spark by Anne Leonard was a excellent epic fantasy story. I loved the romance too. I thought the world building was very well done. My review will be posted on Feb. 19.

Burn Bright by Bethany Frenette was very good too. It is the sequel to Dark Star which I reviewed earlier. It is a contemporary fantasy set in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. My review will be posted on Feb. 20.

Currently
A Taste Fur Murder by Dixie Lyle is my current book. I am at about 38% of this mystery. It has been entertaining so far.
