Michelle Obama has famously focused on encouraging people and especially kids to eat healthy foods. She has also been an advocate for poverty awareness.
Obama was born Michelle LaVaughn Robinson in Chicago, Illinois. She always did well at school, skipping second grade, being in a gifted program in sixth grade, and attending a magnet high school. She went to two of the most prestigious universities in the country—Princeton and Harvard Law School. As a lawyer, Obama worked at a law firm, and for the mayor of Chicago, and for the University of Chicago Medical Center.
As the wife of a Senator and First Lady, Michelle Obama became known as a fashion icon. That may sound sort of unimportant, compared to her work against poverty and for nutrition, but when she wears clothing from a design company, their sales go up, up, up—and the fact that she wears clothing from more than 50 companies, some high end along with pieces from Target and J. Crew, means that she has helped a lot of people in the industry.
Of course, many people in the world—particularly women and girls—look up to Michelle Obama for her strength and intelligence, for her passion to parent her three daughters well, and for her efforts to help others. It's pretty wonderful to have such an admirable First Lady!
