A Burgos - city of 170,000 inhabitants-es, though renowned for its tranquility and
relatively conservative tradition - the weekend of January 18-19 was stirred. At issue:
the proposed development of a street popular area Gamonal that caused the mobilization for
three days, thousands of people revolted against expenses considered excessive in times of
crisis. ---- The city of Burgos wanted to invest 8 million euros in the development of the
Vitoria street, one of the two main streets of this working class neighborhood. A
staggering cost, while the Spanish population is anemic, with an unemployment rate
exceeding 26% and even 45% for less than 30 years.
The builder, owner of the local newspaper El Diario de Burgos, is a corrupt businessman,
already sued for former real estate projects negotiated with ... mayor of the city.
Police provocations and repression
To support the mobilization of Burgos, demonstrations of support took place in several
cities in Spain.
In Barcelona, Granada, Valencia, altercations pitted manifestant.es to the police. In
Zaragoza, Aragon, 8 people were arrested. A policeman worthy of a state of siege device
was built around the popular district of Magdalena, appointment forced sphere
"alternative" and activist. Systematic checks were made on passant.es
Despite the cessation of work in the area of Gamonal - the mayor has backtracked - it
would not be surprising that the mobilization continues, as popular anger is great.
Do not forget that the Spanish context is particularly sensitive at this time, following
the draft anti-abortion law.
Libertarian alternative to solidarity with the protest movement and demand the immediate
cancellation proceedings against those arrested.
