EXPANDING THE CONCEPTUAL APPARATUS OF ECOLOGY: NEW CONCEPTS - BIOCHEMICAL ECOLOGY, ECOLOGICAL CHEMOMEDIATORS, ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMOREGULATORS.
New contributions to fundamental concepts. 1.EXPANDING THE CONCEPTUAL APPARATUS OF ECOLOGY: NEW CONCEPTS - BIOCHEMICAL ECOLOGY, ECOLOGICAL CHEMOMEDIATORS, ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMOREGULATORS.
The basic concepts and principles of the new discipline of biochemical ecology were formulated in the book "Introduction to Biochemical Ecology" (1986) [1].
As we see it, this line of research is focused on the role of chemicals in interorganismal interactions, in communication and regulation of supraorganismal systems. Another part of the biochemical ecology is associated with the study of the fate and transformations of the chemicals (including xenobiotics) which are external to the body of organisms when they interact with the organisms. For the biochemical ecology the various types of chemicals are of interest: both the natural compounds, and the substances that were synthesized by man.
We proposed and justified the new concepts and terms "ecological chemomediators", and "ecological chemoregulators" (in the same book, then in the articles listed below [2-5]).
