White Dog was a little miffed at first when Taiko walked over to where Steve and she were sitting together and thrust his head on Steve's lap. But then she noticed his glassy-looking eyes and heard his wheezy breathing. She barely had time to tun her head before our Tender-Hearted Boy burst into a coughing fit that sounded like the nagging hack that Steve still has from the head cold he fought before Thanksgiving.

It was definitely a "Dad, I don't feel good" moment. and Steve wrapped his arms around the Big Boy and cooed. "Your poor nose is all snotty, TyTy, and your eyes are gunky. How about a benedryl? That will make you feel better." The sad face that looked at Steve was so full of trust and discomfort that I almost teared up.

While Steve prepared the medication, Taiko at his side, we strategized that if Oh Yes! Another White Dog was still coughing in the morning we would call Dr. Julia and bring him in for a look/listen. For now, the benedryl has done the trick of quieting his breathing and opening his lungs. He is sleeping deeply and will hopefully be untroubled by coughing for the rest of the night. Believe me, we will sleep with one ear tuned to his rhythm just to be sure.
