We, the Libertarian Resistance Organization [ENT], a member of the Brazilian Anarchist
Coordination ( CAB ), we provide our full support and solidarity because of the violent
eviction suffered for twenty seven families belonging to the Community of Cumbia, located
12km from the city of Aracaty, coastal east of Cear? . The community of Cumbia, formed by
fisherwomen, seafood / and the workers in general, as evidence of resistance in the
struggle for life and full maintenance of their territories, occupied since the day March
10, 2013 an old farm / shrimp farm that was disabled since 2004. ---- During the months of
occupation of the abandoned area, the community organized locally for activities such as
debates ecosystem conservation, discussions with social movements and activities in
support of the camp. Unlike the supposed "owner " who appropriated the area to degrade it,
the families belonging to the community came Cumbia self managing their territory with the
prospect of working in the recovery of degraded areas .
Unfortunately, on the 20th of August, a violent and cowardly, families were evicted by the
Military Police in an action granted by justice, which only has eyes for defending big
business . Following the military police in action was a bailiff and manager Rubens Gomes
dos Santos, who claims to own the land . Thus, we ask: Owner ? As well, Owner ? As
mentioned businessman, destructive of the environment, can own a huge mangrove area ?
What is clear, in our view, is that much of this is due to the problematic relations
between the State and favored entrepreneurs of shrimp farming . This close relationship is
seen clearly when the executive power granted vast lands for the exploitation and
degradation and this is confirmed by the decisions of the legislature that makes laws to
benefit the prawn and when we see that whenever " there are problems in the laws for
installation or property, "the judge justice in favor of entrepreneurs at the expense of
the community . Just like the case of Cumbia, this collusion between political and
economic region ( state and big capital ) has long been overwhelming and exterminate
collective efforts in defense of mangroves .
It is understood as the practice of shrimp shrimp farming in ponds . This has been partly
the northeastern coast of Cear? and one of the activities that directly affect most
coastal environment . With the goal of large-scale production, mangrove areas are replaced
by installing huge artificial ponds, impacting the habitat of numerous species of
crustaceans, fish, birds and insects, which is as true mangrove nursery biodiversity
present in coastal areas . Officially, a question that can not fail to draw attention is
that, according to the National System of Conservation Units ( SNUG ) mangrove environment
is a Protected Area (PPA ), therefore, it is illegal destruction of mangrove vegetation
and salt flats ( native vegetation of the mangrove ecosystem ), as well as promoting the
degradation of existing species .
People residing near the mangrove has a whole culture that was built from the contact with
the ecosystem, which is the place of origin of their primary food source . Thus, the
mangrove is also present as a secular place for fishermen and seafood restaurants in the
region, where the customs and practices date back long periods, according to the
collective memory of the community . In contrast, the entrepreneur is a devastating
mangrove ecosystem in our state, which contributed and continue to contribute to the
reduction of mangrove area of Cear? . The occupation was abandoned nursery legitimate and
aimed to denounce the devastation the mangrove ecosystem, as claimed ensuring permanence
and continuation of their way of life and culture in its territory .
We are completely against the logic of capitalist destruction of the environment, defense
of landlordism, criminalization of fighters / es and territories extermination of native
populations . We are lovers of equality will only be achieved through the organization of
horizontal base, the construction of popular power, shoulder to shoulder in the fight and
the seeds that are planted every day by fighters / those of another company, as is the
case of residents fighting the Cumbia . We see the initiative as a cry from the camp that
says just the latifundia, just inequality, simply the criminalization of social movements,
just to deforestation of mangroves, just water pollution, soil salinisation, just, just
the oppressions we suffer .
Therefore we are opposed to this activity, the so-called " progress" capitalist who is
nailed to the region and the State makes use of their organized violence, the police, to
oppress the people of the coastal area fighters . We sympathize families of fighters / s
community of Cumbia, resistance and support their struggles, calling all of those who are
against this social injustice and state violence, to show solidarity to their companions /
the fighters / s coastal zone .
