Requirements:
Applicants must be in possession of a BVSc or BVMCh degree (you are required to furnish a credit certificate and/or statement of results) and must be registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC). Good communication (verbal and written) skills. Proven computer skills, especially in MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Extensive progressive experience on a State Veterinary level in the Government Veterinary Services environment. A valid driver’s licence.

Duties:
The incumbent will be responsible to manage animal disease information as well as animal disease early warning systems [nationally, within the industry, trading partners and International organisations, such as the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and to the Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources of the African Union (AU-IBAR)]. Ensure that there are adequate Government veterinary laboratory services and audit the enforcement of quality systems in diagnostic veterinary laboratories as well as audit the enforcement of policy for reference laboratories. Develop, analyse and audit policy for the surveillance and reporting of animal diseases that can be transmitted form animals to humans (zoonoses). Conduct risk assessments and act as contact points for communicating risk and the occurrence of animal diseases in South Africa to local interested parties within South Africa, foreign Government and international bodies.
