Our state is the middle of the worst drought we have had in the recording of such things, with virtually no moisture since the beginning of the year. All of our Open Lands and State Parks are closed and water rationing is in effect in many towns.
This morning as the White Dog Army prepared for their post breakfast nap, the sky opened up again sending us a drenching rainfall. Michael rushed outside to gather his laundry which was drying on the deck and Steve waved to several neighbors as they, like him, stood on their porches joyfully watching. It turned out to be a good day to daydream and cuddle as the threatening sky did not clear, teasing us with the hope of yet ANOTHER storm front moving through.
The prayer for more rain was on every one's lips...at the grocery...in offices...on the social media. And we were answered this evening with a display of lightning and a CRACK of thunder that once again sent YoYoMa hiding behind my legs. The baseball game is delayed on account of rain! And pizza deliveries are replacing planned dinners on the grill. It is raining...long and sweet...and has been for a couple of hours.
The air smells wet and earthy; the flowers all have their heads turned heavenward, and there is no more beautiful sight that the leaves in front of our house dripping jeweled drops. The White Dog Army is keeping close together and dozing at my feet until Steve gets home after late teaching. We are a long way from being free of drought but tonight everyone in Albuquerque is singing in the rain.
