Nostalgia for the Light is a documentary film released in 2010 that the question of how
deep the past, with shading in the history of Chile and particularly sinister military
dictatorship (1974-1990) of General Pinochet. Chilean director Patricio Guzman, who has
spent half his life in exile, notably produced the startling documentary trilogy The
Battle of Chile (1975-1979) - which worked Chris Marker - and two documentaries on
opposite faces of Pinochet and Allende: The Pinochet Case (2001) and Salvador Allende
(2004). ---- With this documentary, Guzman managed to film a poetic and paradoxical way
the Chilean Atacama Desert, with some tragic scene, and explores how philosophical and
committed various temporal dimensions of past astronomical, archaeological and historical.
In this desert is one of the driest in the world, Guzman us and meet several characters
whose stories intertwine and document the traumatic history of the Chilean dictatorship.
With a special mention for this group of some women who rake this vast desert for decades
on a shoestring and looking stubbornly remains of their missing [ 1 ], the dictatorship

broadcast in Chile but internationally rewarded its release, Patricio Guzman continues his
fight against oblivion. He says in effect: " A country without documentary film is like a
family without a photo album . "
