The CGT congress held in Toulouse from March 18 to 22 showed a discrepancy between a
confederal timid bureaucracy and greater militancy in many sectors. ---- After the last
congress of the CGT, the new Secretary General Thierry Lepaon said: "The CGT does not go
to war against the government, calling it liberal." The exact opposite of the
interventions of delegates! The discussion should be continued. ---- Quarrels and jargon
---- The 50th Congress will clearly decided on two things: the election of the new
Secretary General and an official online widely adopted. Everything else is the confusion
that dominates: the wars of people and structures at the top of the confederation and
several federations that have been carefully suppressed the time Congress will flare.
The adopted documents filled with jargon [ 1 ] on "sustainable human development" will
settle nothing. The chapter on the "work" is, according to connoisseurs arcane subject of
a pass at the top of ideological weapons against introducing innovations growth at any
price, the simple union members can hardly grasp the ... conflicting claims pile.
Maximalist hide formulas possible capitulations. In short, all the resolutions were too
vague and inconsistent for the opportunity to engage in policy debates clearly from
specific amendments. Where a real disinterest numbers of activists to the conference, and
the final votes for comfortable text just read.
Yet the overall tone found in the applause of delegates contrasts with the poisonous
atmosphere around the mess to the estate of Bernard Thibault: questioning the axis
oriented unit with the CFDT, critical action days too far apart, denouncing the confederal
inertia that does not favor the convergence of businesses struggle where CGT unions often
play the leading role, indictment of Holland ... Each government interventions on these
issues raised thunderous applause, emphasizing the fighting many areas at the base.
Combative sectors
Whereas in the last Congress the candidacy of Jean-Pierre Delannoy carried by several
militant networks gave visibility to the proponents of a more radical union line, it
should be noted the organizational decline of most of these networks. Yet doubts,
questions, criticisms, and even bitterness, are still strong. We do not mean only in
business but also in local and departmental unions and in many federations. Remains to
build positive clear direction and shared to rid the CGT bad legacy of the old Stalinist
authoritarianism as reformist temptations habits. The activists hope a union resistance
activity at the height of Hollande attacks Sarkozy continues after. What are the next
battle? Against breakage of the job? Against the implementation of Ani in such and such a
professional company branch? Against a new pension reform? Difficult to make a prognosis
but it is sure that we need more than ever a democratized CGT and combative.
