Requirements:
An appropriate three year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Natural or Engineering Sciences or Environmental Sciences, plus appropriate working experience in the field of pollution and waste management. An understanding of the policy and legislative framework governing general waste management. Experience in project management will be an added advantage. Negotiation skills and good interpersonal relations. Well-developed communication skills. The ability to work independently and efficiently under pressure.
Duties:
Assist in the identification of policy and regulatory interventions for the sound environmental management of general waste streams. Assist in the development of initiatives for the prevention and minimisation of priority general waste streams, including recycling and reuse. Provide technical input for legislation and policy development, environmental impact assessment, capacity building, as well as authorisation and regulatory processes related to general waste management. Support the development and administration of agreements with industry, aimed at reducing the release of priority general waste streams into the environment. Investigate mechanisms for the collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of general waste. Support the development of plans for the proper management of general waste. Investigate mechanisms for improved general waste management. Identify general waste information requirements for the waste information system. Disseminate information on general waste and, in particular, promote awareness on recycling.
