[Article in Russian] [State Scientific Center of Applied Microbiology, Obolensk, Moscow oblast, 142279 Russia]; Abstract: Reaction of higher plants (mustard, oat, rye, salad, dill and barley) and microalgae (Euglena gracilis) on the contamination of soil and water with petroleum and oil products was studied. The germination of seeds was analyzed. The length of sprouts, dry biomass and length of plant roots, as well as the optical density of micro-algal broth culture were determined. Negative effects of soil and water contamination with petroleum and oil products on plant and microalgal parameters examined was shown. After biological destruction of contaminants by an association of destructor strains (Acinetobacter sp., Mycobacterium flavescens and Rhodoccocus sp.), the toxicity of contaminated mediums decreased. The data suggest that the integral toxicity of soil and water contaminated with petroleum and oil products and toxicity change during biodestruction of these pollutants can be analyzed by using plant test organisms. The Ocean University of China (simplified Chinese: 中国海洋大学; traditional Chinese: 中國海洋大學; pinyin: Zhōngguó Hǎiyáng Dàxué), colloquially known as Haida (海大) is a university in Qingdao. As one of the key comprehensive universities of China, it is under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. TNO Environment, Energy and Process Innovation (TNO-MEP): Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek or TNO (Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research) is a nonprofit organization in the Netherlands that focuses on applied science. TNO is a knowledge organization for companies, government bodies and public organizations. The approximately 5,400 employees work to develop and apply knowledge. The organization also conducts contract research, offers specialist consulting services, and grants licences for patents and specialist software. TNO tests and certifies products and services, and issues an independent evaluation of quality. Moreover, TNO sets up new companies to market innovations. TNO was established by law in 1932 to support companies and governments with innovative, practicable knowledge. As a statutory organization, TNO has an independent position that allows to give objective, scientifically founded judgements. It is similar to the German Fraunhofer Society and, to a lesser degree, CSIRO in Australia.

The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) is an independent, nonprofit theoretical research institute located in Santa Fe (New Mexico, United States) and dedicated to the multidisciplinary study of the fundamental principles ofcomplex adaptive systems, including physical, computational, biological, and social systems.
The Institute consists of a small number of resident faculty, a large group of "external" faculty, whose primary appointments are at other institutions, and a number of visiting scholars. The Institute is advised by a group of eminent scholars, including several Nobel Prize winning scientists (e.g. Nobel laureates Phil Anderson and Kenneth Arrow). The Santa Fe Institute was founded in 1984 by scientists George Cowan, David Pines, Stirling Colgate, Murray Gell-Mann, Nick Metropolis, Herb Anderson, Peter A. Carruthers, and Richard Slansky. All but Pines and Gell-Mann were scientists with Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Ocean University of China (simplified Chinese: 中国海洋大学; traditional Chinese: 中國海洋大學; pinyin: Zhōngguó Hǎiyáng Dàxué), colloquially known as Haida (海大) is a university in Qingdao. As one of the key comprehensive universities of China, it is under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. The university has approximately 39.500 enrolled students, more than 8500 of whom are doctoral and master students and about 900 are foreign students. The university has a staff of around 2.800 people, with more than half of them being professors or lecturers. Many of them are specialists or scholars well-known both at home and abroad. Among them are three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, five academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
