White Dog plopped down on the bed next to Steve. "Curried turkey salad?" "Done." "Bleu cheese dipping sauce for the baked fingerling potatoes?" "Done." "Cheese pastries, almond cake, panna cotta?" "Done, done, and done." "Easter baskets?" she looked at me. "Assembled and the salad and cheese tray must wait until tomorrow. We are done with prep." I told her.
The White Dog Army had been supervising all evening as we prepared our at-home picnic fare for tomorrow's Easter celebration. We had a selection of beautiful bright potted flowers and already had pretty floral table cloths ready for the table. Not the mountain vista of Cochiti Lake but a celebration that would contain all of the vital ingredients being together, sharing a meal of Spring favorites, and love.
Nuka has continued to inch forward toward health. Today we added a bit of baby food to the nutrition drink, thickening it up. She still needs to be syringe fed but she is turning her head willingly to accept the next "bite" and seems grateful to eat. While still sleeping an awful lot, she does make a point of coming out and being social when she is awake. We are seeing progress and feeling hopeful.
White Dog and The White Dog Army wishes you a weekend filled with the special gifts of the season: hope, renewal, growth and joy. May tomorrow be filled with a celebration of love and togetherness...and the knowing that even in the darkest moment no one is truly ever alone.
Please, too, remember to share your gratitude with those who may be lost or without or in need...there are so many these days and a kind word or a silent prayer of support goes far.
Happy Easter.
