GENTRIFY THIS!

Understanding and Resisting Neighborhood Gentrification

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 6pm-9pm

at QPIRG Concordia

1500 de Maisonneuve West, #204

m?tro Guy-Concordia

This event will serve as the launch of Gentrify This! A Student's Guide to Understanding
and Resisting Neighbourhood Gentrification

?Gentrification can seem inevitable. As condos spring up like mushrooms, rent creeps ever
higher, and available apartments become harder and harder to find, how can we resist the
mass displacement of socio-economically marginal groups from popular neighborhoods? This
guide addresses the structural and cultural aspects of gentrification, and suggests both
individual and collective strategies for resisting the process.? Gentrify This! was
supported by a research stipend by QPIRG Concordia.

With the participation of members of local housing and activist organizations active in
resisting gentrification in Montreal.

ANTI-CAPITALIST ASSEMBLY

Monday May 27, 2013, 1-5 pm

Location: 7th Floor, Hall Building, Concordia University

1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd West (m?tro Guy-Concordia)

This location is wheelchair accessible.

In English & French, with simultaneous translation.

Monday May 27 2013, after the annual Montreal Anarchist Bookfair, we hope to create a
space where anti-capitalist allies from all over can reunite to discuss and reflect
together, and to talk about what keeps us busy in the different cities where we live.

This will allow us to articulate our struggles and link our actions. It will also be an
opportunity to tell each other what's coming and what we're organizing this year, whether
we want to visit one another, etc.

It will act as an occasion for us to sit down and (re)launch a collective reflection on
the ideas and actions that are on the table at the moment, to reinforce the links and
networks woven over time, and to lay the groundwork for new affinities.

We expect to spend the afternoon in discussion groups (by region? Subject of struggle?
ideological position?), followed by a plenary session to collectively summarize the main
threads of discussion and the most exciting ideas. That being said, the agenda is still
under construction and you are strongly encouraged to send us any suggestions or
discussion topics. Naturally, there will be food to share, childcare will be provided on
demand, and whisper translation will be available between English and French.

Because it's a pleasure to see all those who struggle against all forms of oppression, who
are active in a thousand different ways in building a movement rooted in a culture of
solidarity and resistance against capitalism. You know who you are. Join each other!

An invitation from the Anti-Capitalist Convergence (CLAC) of Montreal.

THE POLITICS OF SECURITY

A presentation by J. Sakai??

Monday, May 27th, 6:30 pm

at QPIRG Concordia?

1500 de Maisonneuve O., suite 204??

The recent f.b.i. and grand jury repression against anarchists in the ?Northwest USA, as
well as the continued police repression of the ?Anti-Globalization resistance, has
reawakened questions about movement ?security. There are many misunderstandings about what
security is. From ?the belief that it is an area of cloak and dagger maneuvers to the
?impression that security is about lists of rules that must be obeyed. ?This is an area
where knowledge is traditionally not written up, but ?passed along by word of mouth. What
this workshop is meant to do is to ?explore the underlying politics of security as an area
of struggle. Discussing basic understandings that can be applied in different situations
in non-authoritarian and diverse ways.

Wheelchair accessible.

Whisper translation provided.
