France, Alternative Libertaire #224 - Unemployment Gard organize solidarity (fr)

At the initiative of Solidarity, a protest against unemployment took place on December 15
in Nimes. Used mobilization unit, it is also a prerequisite for the organization of 
practical solidarity. ---- Having seen a context of class struggle lethargic, Partners 
Gard made the proposal in mid-October, all the forces of social movement Gard, organize a
protest against unemployment, insecurity, social exclusion and redundancies. ---- It is, 
first of all, to break the gravity of a social truce declared by the union bureaucracies 
since the advent of government in Holland meaning that change - true - only come 
mobilization-operated are themselves. It is, then, to give local echo in the national 
demonstration of the unemployed in Paris December 1, in a department that has an 
unemployment rate of 15%.

Meeting unitary unit meeting this demonstration initiative takes shape over the weeks. The 
list of participants is growing (CNT, Attac, The Indignant-es, postcode, anti-capitalist 
Left, Alternative, Left Party, FA, Alternative libertarian Collective unemployed C?vennes
...). Broadcasts and leaflets collages multiply. We target in priority to agencies P?le 
Emploi and neighborhoods.

Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 14h, we are between 200 and 300, to walk under a bright 
sun, the streets of the city's less fortunate N?mes. The slogan of the banner at the top 
of unit train is explicit: "Organize solidarity and resistance." Generally positive 
despite the low mobilization of the inhabitants and residents of neighborhoods.

This event will also have been a real challenge: to live and build an initiative 
deliberately boycotted by large traditional organizations of the social landscape Gard 
namely UD CGT and the PCF, 50 to 70% of usual militant forces in demonstrations in N?mes 
or Ales. This is important: it stresses the importance of providing autonomous initiatives 
without relying systematically calendar activist "decision makers" social movement.

Practical solidarity

In this process, a collective unit will soon be created. Issues of the right to decent 
housing and evictions of tenants will likely be among our priorities. Requisitions may 
emerge. In Ales, a city where 500 people were in trouble housing, a group already working
on creating a welcoming place for families in precarious situations. The issue of 
redundancy plans and actively support employee-'re struggling with a topical on this 
subject in many factories Gard (Jalatte, Salins du Midi, among others), will be another 
focus of mobilization.

A final objective could be, finally, the project of creating a House of the People (on the 
model of Italian social centers or experience in the late 1990s to Paris House sets). The
House of the People, Self social center, a place of convergence activist and open to the 
neighborhood, will offer rooms for associations, unions with legal hotlines, a concert 
hall, the development of literacy and academic support , a popular canteen, etc.. In a 
word, a true alternative project to build and especially refined.
