Tunisia's gold reservesAccording to an investigation by the newspaper Nice-Matin:
Nearly 1800 gold bullion ingots (72 million Euros) have been illegally removed from Tunisia and have passed through four French airports (Nice, Marseille, Orly and Roissy).
This happened between January 2011 and April 2012.
The smugglers, sometimes carrying up to 40 kilos of gold, traveled on to Dubai and Istanbul.
The gold could be a part of Tunisia's gold reserves.
Transport of gold in Europe is subject to simple reporting requirements - but French customs were ordered not to intervene.
