Is it Monday

Seems like a Monday.  New Years Day always seems like a Sunday regardless of the day of the week it falls on.  Even the Dog adopted his Monday pose, that is the sad face, lay on the sofa in the den and just look heartbroken, even though he has already been for a two  mile walk and has had a good half hour of frisbie catching on this 25 degree morning.  Which of necessity started at 5:45 AM.

He is heartbroken because his humans are going off to work, it is not like the weekend when they are around all the time.

In the E Mail this morning there was one from Dr. Jon, who is a veterinarian who has a subscription type of internet newsletter .  This morning he took on Border Collies for discussion.

He described them in detail.  Ours is a smooth coat, which means the hair is shorter.  He described the double coat , which is likened to goose feathers and goose down.  It keeps the dog warmer, it also causes owners to vacuum up about one extra dog per week.

He spoke about how they become attached to their owners, but spoke little of how the owners become attached to the dog.  These are wonderful dogs, they are smart, playful, over the top in their desire to please, to be with you.   Dr. Jon was right on the mark.  They need to be involved and worked and moved and played with and they sure do let you know they are there.

Getting a border collie is a commitment .  But yesterday, when I would have found myself mindlessly watching some bowl game without my dog, instead  found me out in the woods and fields with my dog, sure it was 30 degrees and dampish and we covered a few miles in the woods.

We had a great time. I like to think that he is helping to keep me active and moving, which he is, because I made a vow the first day I got him, no one is to ruin my dog and that means walking 4 or 5 miles per day , 365 per year in all manner of weather, it also means  training and playing.

Get yourself a Border Collie, but only if you are ready to be committed.
