(en) France, Alternative Libertaire #223 - Congress Alternative: The growing divide among Alternative (fr)

The congress was held Alternative 17 and 18 November in Paris, and officially recorded
adherence to the Left Front. For the minority who opposed it, this choice represents a
serious setback on the initial draft of the organization. ---- Heirs of the Socialist
Unity Party (1960-1990) and the Alternative Red and Green (1989-1998), the current
Socialist Alternative embody a self-management. It now covers two sensibilities wanting
compatible, but with different priorities: firstly, sensitivity attached to existing red
and green voice in the "left of the left", mainly through 'electoral alliances and the
slew of elected officials that they generate, on the other hand, a sensitivity more
focused on the "alternative actions". Both can be found elsewhere in the social movements
and trade unions CGT South essentially collective undocumented struggle
Notre-Dame-des-Landes ...

The emergence of the Left Front, however, caused sharp disagreement between them. The
former believe that it is possible to exist without entering. The latter have to go fast,
no desire to sing La Marseillaise and the benefits of "growth" in the meetings of Jean-Luc
M?lenchon.

Choice of alliances

It also weighs disagreement on the choice of alliances. Some negotiate - without success
so far - with several smaller parties sometimes from Trotskyism (United Left, Left,
capitalist, Convergences and alternative Fase) the formation of a red and green pole in
the Left Front. Others have more affinity with decreasing (Movement of growth objectors)
and the libertarian movement, including former and Scalp AL. It was at this congress, with
Alternative renewed its proposal to form a front non-capitalist institutions.

What future for the Alternative?

Congress has ruled 56% for entry to the Left Front, against 35%, 9% abstained. For Mathieu
Colloghan (minority member), itself entering the Left Front " is not binding, but it
means a lot for the cons by Alternative. It confirms a trend in the separation of what we
imagined compatible: one foot in the institutions and electoral classic games, one foot in
the experiment, the social movements and the system is offline. However, it appears that
over time cleavage increasingly became marked. It is also quite gendered and generational.
"In many departments, in fact, women and youth are clearly es found on the minority
position. The entrance to the Left Front risk ordered to play the role of soul red and
green reformism State.

Jean-Jacques Boislaroussie (majority) who refuses to " sweeten the basic guidelines as
self and radical ecology "is aware of a risk of" splits ". The greatest threat, however,
is not so much an ideological liquidation than a grab by the endless negotiations devices
in which the PCF excels. The Alternative can quickly find themselves spending much of
their energy to get a back seat here or there, or move the Left Front building a few
millimeters. The challenge worth the candle?
