Israel's Presidency is supposed to be a ceremonial, non-political position. But Ezer Weizmann, who was President until 2000, often intervened in politics, and during the past seven years, Shimon Peres has only made matters worse. Now, with Peres' term ending this spring, he has one last ceremonial task to perform: To name the Knesset member who gets the first chance to form a government.
