Leave it to the wife

So, as I have =previously written, I was searching for the answer as to why people weren't really interested, not were they in fact, attending church on a regular basis.

I had several high toned theories.  Sex Abuse, Divorce reactiones, etc. etc.  So I come home from Church yesterday, with the bulletin in my hand, I sit down at the kitchen table and get set to read the Sunday paper and drink coffee with my wife.  Who is one of those people who really is not overly concerned with the attendance issue.

So she starts reading the bulletin and in a couple of minutes she says.  Did you notice this ?

What , notice what ?

The number of request for donations, she says.

No, I say, there can't be that many.

Oh, no---she says listen up, offertory, socks, food bank, homeless, diocesan, drug fund, retired clergy, giving tree for needy children,  and three more request for donations.

Bingo, the light bulb goes off and I think to myself  that people in these tough times feel assaulted for their money when they go to church.  Is this a possible reason.  My wife said it was offensive to be placed in the position of having 10 seperate request for money placed in front of a person like this. I do now wonder if this is a factor.

So I suspect that the money grab has reached the point of repelling people, says the guy who just paid 400 bucks to renew his little bulletin support ad on the back of the page..
