We made the decision to take a step back this year toward a more simple celebration. It was prompted by time constraints, by Steve's going back to grad school, by the tone of the world, by an underlying current that we needed to refocus. So we have spent less time entertaining and more time with our family. We gave more simple handmade gifts. We resisted the urge of "just one more" in the materialistic marketing deluge that begins in mid-October now. I was worried that I was accidentally erasing part of the joy of bright paper and colored lights and festivity. I hoped I had not "thrown the baby out with the bath water" in my quest for refinding the spirit of the season.
We, the White Dog Army, Steve, Michael and I, spent a lot of time just being together today, Sitting together, touching and listening to lovely music, and breathing long deep breaths. We walked in the foothills. We sat together and watched night fall. We remembered family of our heart, close friends, with us despite the distances walking through our minds and making us smile with their thoughtfulness. We sang. We ate. We shared ourselves without distraction and in doing so became part of the magic.
It our hope that today gave each of you an opportunity to experience the beautiful wonder and to
