The Guardian and Telegraph have named Lord Alistair McAlpine - as a person 'wrongly linked' to child abuse.
It is being suggested that the late Jimmie McAlpine, who is related to Lord Alistair McAlpine, may be the person referred to by witnesses as a child abuser.
Lord Alistair McAlpine was close to Margaret Thatcher and helped finance her campaigns.
Jimmy McAlpine lived near the Bryn Estyn children's home in Wrexham; he chaired the north of England builders Alfred McAlpine Ltd.
Steve Messham, a former resident of Bryn Estyn, said he had been taken to a Wrexham hotel and sexually abused by a top Tory more than a dozen times.
A local councillor, Keith Gregory, who was also a victim of abuse at Bryn Estyn, told the Guardian he did not believe Lord Alistair McAlpine was the person involved.
Keith Gregory said he thought a different member of the McAlpine family who lived locally may have been mistaken for Lord McAlpine.
Steven Messham told the Waterhouse inquiry his abuser was dead, whereas Lord McAlpine is alive.
When a Times reporter put Lord McAlpine's name to Steven Messham in 1996, Steven said his abuser was called Tom.
Local concillor Keith Gregory said boys from Bryn Estyn would be taken to the homes of two McAlpine family members in the area - Gerwyn Hall and Marchwiel Hall, both a few miles from Wrexham town centre.
Gerwyn Hall was occupied by Jimmie McAlpine, who died in 1991, six years before the Waterhouse inquiry began.

Sian Griffiths referred to 'a local public servant at the time' and how one victim was not able to give evidence against him as he was terrified, saying 'thats how powerful the man is'.
Later this mystery person was referred to as being “key” to any investigation.
The former local public servant 'was also named in a list of offenders in a paedophile ring shown to Channel 4 news'.
"Channel 4 displayed sections, without names, of the lists they were given saying it was claimed around 50% of the names on the list were not investigated.
Channel 4 stated the “high profile local official” is named in this list.
Further, referring to the previously reported ‘pulped’ copies of a Clwyd Council report into abuse, Channel 4 say they believe copies still exist.
Channel 4 suggested that the two new investigations ‘could do worse than start at the kitchen table of Sian Griffiths’.
Wrexham.com hopes that the reams of evidence on show on that kitchen table are independently secured as soon as possible to ensure any investigation – criminal or otherwise – can refer to them.

Timothy Sharp was celebrating his twenty-eighth birthday when the fire that killed him broke out in his flat.
The fire was on 18 April 1992, and is referenced in the Waterhouse Report in paragraph 21.40.
Another attendee at the party was Trevor Carrington who survived the fire but was later apparently run down and killed by a truck (on 21 April 1992, on the Lindfield to Ardingly Road), hours after allegedly confessing to starting the fire!

However, the fire investigator who examined the building, which had no fire escape, said the fire was started in three places at once!
Other reports have it that the Palmeira Avenue flat was linked to tycoon Nicholas van Hoogstraten.
