We are bringing Lindela Figlan from Abahlali baseMjondolo (Shack Dwellers Movement) over
from South Africa to speak at this years? London Anarchist Bookfair. In fact, we are
bringing him over for 21 days and he will be speaking at a number of places in London as
well as around the country. We will put up his speaking tour dates shortly, but if you
want know where else he is speaking email us and we can let you know. ---- The bookfair
will again be held at Queen Mary?s, University of London on the Mile End Road. ---- The
bookfair is one of a number of spaces for anarchists around the UK and the world to come
together. But, as the Anarchist Bookfair is one of the bigger public events we put on as a
movement, we want it to also be a place where those interested in anarchism can find out
what we are about. So, we need help publicising the event (and anarchism generally)
outside our normal scenes & movements.
It can also be a space where we counter the rubbish talked about anarchism by sections of
the media and our opponents. We want to continue to make anarchism a threat again.
If you are new to anarchism check out the pages ?websites? and ?bookfairs?. Here there are
links to anarchist and campaigning groups around the country and anarchist bookfairs
throughout the world.
So, if you can help by taking leaflets or posters to distribute (especially in London)
please email us at mail@anarchistbookfair.org.uk letting us know how many you want and we
will get them to you.
With the space we have at Queen Mary?s now, it?s much better for parents and kids as the
cr?che and older kids space are much more part of the event, and we intend to build on
this. It also means all the meeting rooms are now wheelchair accessable. If you have any
other access requirements, please let us know in advance so we can try and meet your
needs. If you are Deaf and require BSL interpreting and/or speech-to-text provision,
please give us as much notice as possible and we will do our best to organise these.
To discuss any specific access needs, please contact us at access@anarchistbookfair.org.uk
We will add meetings, lectures and workshops to the website as we get nearer to the day,
so come back and check out what?s going on.
This is all organised by a small collective ? so any help before or on the day is very
much appreciated. As are donations as all our costs are increasing - making it harder for
us to break even. But, as ever, the bookfair will always be free to get into.
To make the bookfair a safe environment for children and adults alike, we ask people do
not bring dogs to the event - except guide dogs. Thanks.

Solidarity Federation at the London Anarchist Bookfair 2012
Solidarity Federation at the London Anarchist Bookfair 2012
The Solidarity Federation will be at the London Anarchist Bookfair again this year. It
will be the first place you can get your hands on our new pamphlet 'Fighting for
ourselves: anarcho-syndicalism and the class struggle'. Our other publications will also
be available alongside books, posters and tshirts.
This year the Solidarity Federation will be presenting the following talks:
Nobody Expects The Solidarity Federation! - Room 318, 11-12
"Direct Action Gets The Goods" - in the past 12 months the Solidarity Federation has
launched various direct action campaigns against business owners and landlords in order to
retrieve stolen wages or rent and we have achieved some success, as well as pressuring a
national high street chain into withdrawing from the workfare programme in a high profile
case. This session aims to review and discuss these methods and potentially use the
opportunity as a skillshare.
Stuff Your Sexist Boss - Room 326, 2-3
A workshop exploring our experiences of sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace, and
looking at ways to deal with it. Self-identified women only.
Introduction to Anarcho-Syndicalism - Room 323, 4-5
An introduction to anarcho-syndicalism and the launch of the new Solidarity Federation
pamphlet, 'Fighting for ourselves: anarcho-syndicalism and the class struggle'.
Don?t Just Moan, Organise! An introduction to the Solidarity Federation Workplace
Organiser Training Programme - Room 321, 5-6
As many of us are isolated militants, how do we organise with our co-workers, many of whom
do not hold radical beliefs? How do we connect with them, collectively, as individuals
with whom we share a material interest? More importantly, how do we begin getting them to
take action that builds power in the workplace? How do we make sure we stay true to
principles of solidarity, direct action, and direct democracy?
Come and find out about the Solidarity Federation Workplace Organiser Training. Today?s
session will give you a brief taste of what you can expect on the one-day course, and tell
you how to get in touch with us to join one of our training sessions or hold one in your
own workplace.
Members will also be speaking at the Boycott Workfare meeting (Room 326, 2-3) and What is
Class Struggle? (Room 320, 3-4).
The Sparrows Nest archivists will be presenting Strikes, Nukes & Overdue Subscription Fees
(Room 322, 2-3), showcasing 'some of the recent work of the Sparrows' Nest anarchist
library, using unique documents relating to Anarcho-Syndicalism in Britain and around the
world. Focusing on the overlooked period in the history of radical politics between the
end of the Spanish Civil War and the iconic events of the late 1960s we hope to give an
insight into some of the political and organisational issues faced by the movement, and
suggest further opportunities for research into anarchist history and practice.' This
presentation is informed by archives from the Solidarity Federation's predecessors, the
Anarchist Federation of Britain (AFB), the Syndicalist Workers Federation (SWF) and the
Direct Action Movement (DAM).
The bookfair is held at Queen Mary's University on Mile End Road, and is on Saturday 27th
October. It is open from 10 - 7. Afterwards the Solidarity Federation will be hosting a
social upstairs at the New Globe, 359 Mile End Road.
