White Dog and the White Dog Army
Wonderful World Wednesday
White Dog knows the reality of Less Adoptable Pets; our entire White Dog Army is made of loving wonderful four-leggeds that potential adopters walked away from because of one issue or another. All of the WDA are seniors. Quinn has seizures. Nuka is deaf. Puff has heart and lung damage and came heart worm+. YoYoMa is blind. Oso has a limp. Does that make them less capable of intense loyalty and love and overwhelming gratitude? Of course not! In our opinion a more amazing pack does not exist.
And yet shelters and rescues currently have a significant population of adoptable pets that have been there a long time and have a harder time getting adopted. In fact, according to Petfinder, these “less-adoptable” pets wait for a home nearly four times longer than the average adoptable pet does…sometimes more than two years!
Which pets have the hardest time finding homes? A survey indicated:
24% Senior and older pets
16% Pets with behavioral needs
14% Victims of breed injustice
13% Fearful or shy pets
12% Pets with medical needs
12% Pets that need to be only pets
Celebrate Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week by spreading the word and encouraging others to consider a pet that they may have overlooked because of its age or other issues. Be an advocate for those who truly need a second chance and who will spend the rest of their days giving love and thanks in return for an opportunity at a forever home.
The world will truly be wonderful when the day comes that every animal has a safe, loving, caring home and there is no need for shelters or rescues. As we work toward that day and ask the Universe to make it happen soon, let us not forget that being different should not be a death sentence or doom you to die alone in a cage somewhere. That is not in our vision of a wonderful world.
