Getting Ready

So I went on vacation, was a little under the weather, but vacation means ignoring those little signs of illness.  I knew they were there, but decided not to make a big deal, I would wait the few days and see the Doctor on my return.

I did just that.  He prescribed an antibiotic, no big deal.

Took day one dose without issue, took day two dose and my gastrointestinal system went kablooey and my mood plunged into a darkness of a West Virginia coal mine at midnight.  I could not even lift myself off a chair, the weight of my mood was so bad.  Called Dr. and said something wrong.  He told me  I might be having a drug interaction problem with my beta blocker blood pressure medication.  I had never heard of such a thing, so I googled as everyone does these days and sure enough I learned that there can be interactions between antibiotics and other innocuous medications such as the beta blocker.  Who knew.  Upon stopping, my mood improved dramatically and my system returned to normal  On telling this story to others, some have told me similar tales.  One woman wound up being treated for depression and unable to work for six months.

Well I did not finish the course of antibiotics as I stopped immediately, my health rebounded within a couple of days. I pass this on as a public service and of course to warn about a possible new super bug I just unleashed.
