The phytoremediation potential of three species of aquatic macrophytes were studied. The species studied were: Ludwigia repens J.R. Forst., Micranthemum micranthemoides (Nutt.) Wettst., и Micranthemum umbrosum (J.F. Gmel.) S.F. Blake. Their interaction with four heavy metals were investigated. The metals were added at the concentrations: Pb=0,2 mg/L, Zn=3 mg/L, Cu=3 mg/L, Cd=0,1 mg/L. It was found that the presence of the aquatic macrophytes in the aquatic microcosms accelerated a decrease in the concentration of the four metals in the aquatic medium as compared to the control (aquatic systems without macrophytes). Phytotoxicity of the mixture of the heavy metals to Micranthemum micranthemoides, and M. umbrosum was found.

Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University, Lengory, Moscow, Russia] ABSTRACT: Nanomaterials are produced in significant amounts and may enter the environment. The importance and scale of production of nanoparticles make it relevant to consider the environmental aspects of nanomaterials. The goal of this paper is to consider some aspects of the fate of nanomaterials in the environment, with attention to binding of nanoparticles to various components of ecosystems and biota. This is a continuation of our previous studies of how the chemical elements which were added to aquatic medium may interact with biological objects and biogenic matter. The review of relevant data and the results of the new experiments reveal some aspects of how nanoparticles may bind to biological objects and biogenic matter, which leads to immobilization of the elements.
