[Action2-l] Revival of boat refugee route from Turkey to Greece?‏

Hi Franck;

here is what we know until now;

* On 6 September 61 people died and 47 survived near Izmir. And yes it is true that the women and children were locked under the deck. None survived from this locked room... Multeci-Der visited the accident place few hours after it happened. They are still trying to support and assist the survivors and helping to identify the bodies. And a short report of the accident will be ready soon but there is a press release; http://www.multeci.org.tr/?p=886

* For more then 2 weeks we are discussing a possible change of the route (We; Greek and Turkish friends). there is a good news article which Marion sent few days ago on this topic; http://infomobile.w2eu.net/2012/09/06/new-border-crossings-into-greece-a-revival-of-the-old-routes-in-the-aegean/
Just in 2 weeks, traffic in Evros is decreased suddenly and the new arrival numbers in the islands are rising.

* there is an emergency situation for the police here in Izmir. Basmane (where migrants are styaing in Izmir) is under pressure. police is "hunting" smugglers... this will effect the traffic from izmir to islands.

* Mevlut Cavusoglu is the former president of the  Council of  Europe Parliament (PACE). He knows nothing about migration and related issues. Yet he makes these kinds of awful comments!

* I was planing to visit Chios and Lesvos this week to see the situation and meet with friends from the islands. but plans changed. I will go to Chios and then travel from Athens to Istanbul. But will try to make a short report on the situation as soon as possible.

* again Multeci-Der is actively monitoring the situation there. there must be some reports but not published yet.
