Our last stop...Signal Hill, St. John's, Nfld.

Signal Hill was a must-see before we left Newfoundland. Early morning fog surrounded us and the smell of fresh ocean water was intoxicating. We were all a bit tired and giddy but we climbed the hill anxious to capture the city view. We waited, and waited for the fog to lift.

The final battle of the Seven Years War in North America was fought in 1762 at the Battle of Signal Hill, in which the French surrendered St. John's to the British under the command of Lt. Colonel William Amherst. Lt. Colonel Amherst renamed what was then known as "The Lookout" as "Signal Hill," because of the signalling that took place upon its summit from its flagmast. Flag communication between land and sea would take place there from the 17th century until 1960.

The fog lifted enough for us to see the city of St. John's

 What a fantastic view. It is a place where people go to gather their thoughts and walk their very fortunate dogs. I loved it and it was here I said "Goodbye" to St. Johns. We gathered our belongings and headed to the airport. The happy couple will finish their holiday and head home soon.

Now it`s back to reality and I`m heading out to cat-sit.  I missed all my kitties.
