It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
Even though I am obsessed with the Olympics, I did manage to get some reading done this week. Here are the books I finished:
When Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews arrived, I had to drop everything and read it. I really like Andrews' urban fantasy which combines magic and shapeshifters and mystery in an Atlanta where magic comes and goes with no pattern. This is a spin-off of their Kate Daniels series and Andrea is a kickass as Kate but in a different way. My review will be posted on August 22.
Chilled (A Bone Secrets Novel) by Kendra Elliot was a review book I got from Amazon Vine. This is the second in the Blood Secrets series. This one features a nurse on a search and rescue operation and a former US Marshal who is also very interested in the plane crash. This one has all the elements needed to send chills up the spine - a serial killer who is focused on the heroine, extreme weather including an avalanche, and lots of danger and excitement. My review will be posted on August 29.
The Templeton Twin Have an Idea by Ellis Weiner was a middle grade book I got from Amazon Vine. I thought it had tons of middle grade humor and age appropriate adventure. But I wonder why middle grade books have to be so silly. My review will be posted on August 22.
I got Thirteen by Kelley Armstrong from the publisher. Since I had already bought my own, I found myself with two finished copies of the book. I loved this conclusion to Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series and plan to share the love. My review and a giveaway of my extra copy will be posted on August 15.
I got The Blood Keeper by Tessa Gratton from Amazon Vine for review because I have met her and liked her first book. I really liked this young adult combination of horror and romance. I can't wait until it is published at the end of August to get a copy for my school media center. My review will be posted on August 25.
Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama is a review book I got from Macmillan. This was also an intriguing story that moves from the past to the present and is about mermaids and curses. I was especially fond of the main character. My review will be posted on August 18.
I am currently reading another review book. Tears of the Jaguar by A. J. Hartley is from Amazon Vine. It is a thriller based around an archaeological discovery that draws all sorts of characters out of the woodwork.
Next week a bunch of my pre-orders from Amazon will be arriving which will no doubt mess up my reading plans. These are the ones that are currently in the plans:
I would like to read Kitty Steals the Show by Carrie Vaughn which is the latest in a series I really enjoy. I also have Garment of Shadows by Laurie King on my review stack. I really like her historical mysteries featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes.

The next two on my young adult stack are review books from Macmillan. Outpost by Ann Aguirre is the sequel to Enclave and will be published on Sept. 4. My Book of Life by Angel written by Martine Leavitt is also a Sept. 4 release. This one is a gritty contemporary about child prostitution that sounds like something I needed to read.
I am expecting an exciting interruption to my reading week as I plan to travel to the Twin Cities on Friday for a book signing by Heather Anastasiu for her debut novel Glitch at The Red Balloon Bookshop and staying over to attend a signing of Precinct 13 by Tate Hallaway on Saturday at Uncle Hugo's Bookstore. From there I will be heading to my school year home to drop off a load of stuff before returning to my summer home in Duluth for my last couple of weeks of summer vacation.
You might have noticed that my reviews won't be showing up for a while. I managed to get a month ahead on my blogs. My August calenders are almost completely scheduled. I needed to do this for two reasons. I have eighteen books to read and review in September and school starts again for me on August 27 and for kids on Sept. 4. I am massively busy at the start of each school year and needed to remove one pressure point - review books - from the equation.
