Member countries of the European Union



The European Union has not always been as large as today. When the process of economic integration among European countries began in 1951, only Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands participated.
Over the years, an increasing number of countries have decided to join. The EU now has 28 member countries, with the accession of Croatia on 1 July 2013.

EU symbols
The European Union recognized through various symbols, the most famous being the circle of gold stars on a blue background.

The Europe Day
The founding ideas of the European Union were set out for the first time May 9, 1950 by Robert Schuman, then French foreign minister. That is why on May 9 remains a highly symbolic date for the Union.
