Abstract: In this study, the authors demonstrated that, in the presence of macrophytes (the species OST-1), the initial sharp decrease in water surface tension caused by addition of the surfactant sodium dodecylsulfate was followed by gradual restoration of surface tension. This experiment is the first experimental evidence that proves that the macrophyte promotes a decrease in the surfactant concentration in water. This contributed to the basis for phytotechnologies to purify and remediate aquatic environment polluted with surfactants and detergents.
