This book was one of the first ones that started the series of scientific publications about the value of biodiversity; this book was among the first books that provided well structured scientific arguments that demonstrated that it is really necessary and urgent to protect biodiversity. This book was among the first that provided a scientific basis for nature conservation and formulated the fundamental principles and axioms of nature conservation. Thsi book became very popular with lecturers and students who are involved in environmental protection and nature conservation worldwide.
