Stop-off in Rome...

Dateline Rome: 2012-06-30, 08h00
Leonardo  Da Vinci Airport

So, here we are, having successfully navigated through the Vancouver-Toronto (4hrs) and Toronto-Rome (8.5 hrs) legs, and feel like we should be given advanced degrees in waiting in line.  But, no broken bones, and we only have one more short hop flight until we are in Tirana!
Our observations so far include:
  • The Italians have figured out efficiency in serving capuccino and brioche in the airport, if not necessarily in getting people through security.
  • It is warm in Italy in July:  26C at 06h30.
  • Everyone was able to carry their instruments through without incident except our Principal violist, who was told he had to check it as baggage.  (Perhaps the check in attendant was aware of the tradition of viola jokes and was not taking any chances.)  We're all crossing our fingers that his "axe" makes it through in one piece.
  • The Tetris game on the Alitalia Boeing 777 is a bit clunky.
Once we land in Tirana, the first step is seeing about getting our advance shipment of donated instruments through customs.  Bujar has been working on this and I'm sure everything  will work out.

Our first rehearsal is tonight at the opera house!  I guess we'll see then how the jet lag has been treating us all.
Overandout for now!
