Vietnam’s version of the Great Wall of China extended from Quang Ngai Province to Binh Dinh in the south, and, at 127 kilometers, is the longest monument in Southeast Asia.
Archaeologists said around 100 guardhouses have been uncovered, and Don Thu is the largest one at 16,000 square meters. It is divided into northern and southern sections by a wall with a door.
Its terraced walls were around 3 meters tall and 4-6 meters wide at the bottom, and it was set around 0.5 meters into the ground.
There were watchtowers in its four corners and a fifth between the western wall.
Five incense stands were found at the site, the first religious traces to be discovered after seven years of excavation at the Long Wall of Quang Ngai, said Dr. Nguyen Tien Dong, the group leader.
The archaeologists also found several clay and ceramic home appliances from the 18th century.
